Laser Pointers - Why is IR filtering so important for laser safety?
All lasers are created differently, under different conditions and manufacturing specs, so knowing what type of laser you are really getting can be difficult to learn. Some of the more shoddy lasers fail to incorporate safety measures like IR filters, making them dangerous if used regularly.
Think lasers offers only lasers designed with IR filters in place, after all you only get one pair of eyes and protecting them is important. The reason that these filters are so important is because they block the Infrared light from actually beaming out of the laser, therefore, making it impossible for damaging IR light to enter your eyes.
